The first point of contact
You may wish to contact us directly, in which case we will arrange an introductory appointment for you with our team. We would prefer wherever possible to make appointments with the knowledge and involvement of your GP, but this need not delay your first contact with us.
The Consultation
On your first visit, you will undergo a
general medical assessment and your details will be registered.
You will see the consultant surgeon
to discuss your options with him or her, and a treatment
plan will be agreed. This may include organising mammograms
and any medical tests which we may within reason consider
to be needed to ensure the safety of your operation. We
would ask you and/or your doctor to provide us with copies
of reports of any significant or relevant recent blood
tests and Xrays.
We will notify your GP of the decisions and plans with your permission.
Surgery
We will generally invite you up for a preoperative
assessment as an outpatient. We will aim to
admit you on the day of surgery, when you will meet your
consultant anaesthetist and your surgeon for a preoperative
chat and breast marking.
After Surgery
In line with best modern practice, we
aim to allow you home within a day or two of surgery, in
liaison with our nursing staff and your own family doctor.
You will have access to the full support facilities of the Hospital on a 24/7 basis and contact with a member of the consultant team for any problems that may arise.
